Welcome to Twigg Flowers

Twigg has for a long time been just a daydream. But if 2020 had any positives, it’s that it gave me more time to think and plan - taking the daydream and beginning to make it a reality.

A career in floristry has been something I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time. Flowers and nature have always been an important part of my life - I grew up on a smallholding so being outdoors among the animals and plants has been second nature to me since I was a child!

I first came into floristry 20 years ago when I took a City and Guilds qualification at a local college, and since then I’ve always been involved with floristry, although working in the corporate world meant it was always a weekend or evening pursuit. I’ve created arrangements for many occasions over the years, including weddings and funerals, and while my dream was to do go into floristry full-time, I’d never taken that step.

And so we arrived in 2020. As well as having time to stop and think, there were two other main factors that year that gave me the push and confidence to take the next step. The first was signing up to do a career course with the amazing Rachel Petheram at Catkin Flowers. The second was solving the problem of finding a plot that I could use to scale up the amount of flowers I was able to grow.

This problem was solved by some very generous friends who kindly offered me the use of a patch of land at their home. So began many weekends and evenings, building raised beds, carting compost and manure and sowing lots of seeds and bulbs. 2021 will see my first proper crop of flowers that I can use for my floral designs.

It’s exciting and nerve-wracking in equal measure, but it’s no longer just a daydream and this is just the beginning!
